I've been looking at old pictures and documents today. There is something both comforting and painful about looking back in time. To think of what was, compare that to now, and to look forward in time to what will be. We all have our obvious regrets, and our outstanding joys. Of course, we can't see the future, but we can dream of it.
Our time with God and each other is precious. We never know what will happen. Life comes up and hits a person sideways. Do we step aside? Do we back up and get a larger view? Do we press forward? Every moment is a decision that affects the rest of our lives. I have learned to leave the past where it is. To see what I can make of the now to make life better, while I hope for the future. When I do think of the past, I think forgiveness is sweet, and there might be something nice about forgetfulness too.
If we have difficulties that seem too hard to reconcile, remember God is able to mend those bridges. He is able to put us in places and circumstances where reconciliation can happen, and if it cannot, if He is the one who says that it is not good for us, then He will heal the heart and put us in places where we need no reconciliation. God is a just and merciful God. Life is a circle of His design.
Fortunately for us, God's time is everlasting, as is His mercy. So take all the time you need to realize where you stand with Him. As you do, remember the measurement of God's time:
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.
and:
Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today and forever.
If you find sin, ask Jesus to forgive you.
His love never changes!
